In the past,
a parish was a place with geographic boundaries. The rest of life had a
fairly consistent outline. If you were born within the bounds of a parish,
your family had likely lived there forever and you would be baptized and
become a member of that parish.
The world has
changed - some of us may have lived here for generations, but many are new
to the area. People who have recently come to St. Luke’s say they have come
because they want to be part of a loving church community. Saint Luke’s is a
good example of a community not defined primarily by geography.
The people
of the parish come from many towns and from various denominations. When we
feel “at home” in this community we feel we belong; we feel we are members
of the community. And, of course, we are.
How to join
the Church.....
But we may not be members of the church! This distinction is important. One
has to be a member of the church in order to be elected to Vestry, to serve
on Diocesan committees or to be a lay delegate to the convention. How does
one become an active member of the church?
To be an active,
confirmed communicant of the Episcopal Church a person must have been
baptized in a faith and have received communion at least three times in the
previous year and been faithful in their corporate worship, praying and
giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God. We ask our members to make a
pledge to the Church.
How to join? The
best thing is to make an appointment with
Father
Barber or talk about
it with any member of the Vestry.
We welcome you to
our parish and hope you can be part of our community. We need new members to
grow into Christ’s love and mission for the church.

Welcome to St.
Luke’s!
We’ve been waiting
for you! It’s true, because we believe that every person who joins us for
worship, fellowship or learning has been called into our community by God.
We have been expecting you, looking for an opportunity to show you Christ’s
love. We look forward to knowing you. We are excited about the wonderful
ways in which God is working through us.
We are a modern,
Eucharistically-centered congregation, with a full range of worship,
education and Christian activity. We invite you to join us and become a
member of our church.
